Shopify product images: banners, gallery and ads from one product photo

Your Shopify, WooCommerce or other e-commerce store has no template. It needs wide hero banners with room for live text, a consistent product gallery, close-ups that stand in for touch, and ad creatives that stop the scroll. Here is the full set, made for one sample product, with the prompt for every image.

Same sample product as our Amazon listing guide. We make Poster Grammar, the tool linked on this page.

1. Hero banners: desktop and mobile

Crop the photo so one side (desktop) or the top (mobile) stays empty. Your theme puts the headline and button there as live text, which stays sharp, can be translated and can be edited without a new image. Make both from the same "shoot": same place, same light.

Desktop hero: bottle on a rock, mountains, empty left side
Desktop 16:9: empty left side for the headline
Mobile hero: bottle in the lower third, empty sky above
Mobile 9:16: empty top for the headline

Desktop hero prompt
Premium direct-to-consumer website hero banner for PEAK, an outdoor hydration brand.
PRODUCT LOCK: the attached PEAK insulated bottle exactly: matte olive-green body, rounded base, shoulder curve, black flip-top lid, integrated carry loop, original PEAK mountain logo. Do not redesign or recolour any part.
COMPOSITION: wide 16:9. The complete bottle on the RIGHT, three-quarter front view, about 35-40% of the frame height, standing on a natural stone surface. The LEFT 45% stays quiet and empty for the website headline and button.
SETTING: mountain landscape, muted greenery, distant ridges in soft haze, understated and premium.
LIGHT AS SEEN: soft morning sun from the left, natural directional shadows, real matte texture, controlled highlight on the black lid.
PALETTE: olive green, charcoal, warm stone beige, muted forest green, natural grey.
DO NOT ADD: text, placeholder buttons, extra products, water splashes or condensation.
OUTPUT: 1920 x 1080 px.
Mobile hero prompt
The mobile version of the PEAK desktop hero: the same campaign, setting, light and colour, from another camera position in the same shoot.
PRODUCT LOCK: the attached PEAK bottle exactly (matte olive body, black flip-top lid, carry loop, rounded base, mountain logo).
COMPOSITION: vertical 9:16. The complete bottle in the LOWER THIRD, slightly towards the centre, large and fully visible. The TOP 35-40% stays clean and simple (softly blurred mountains) for the headline and button.
SETTING: natural stone, muted greenery, distant mountain silhouettes.
LIGHT AS SEEN: soft morning sun, gentle atmospheric depth, natural shadows.
DO NOT ADD: text, labels, buttons, accessories, splashes, clutter.
OUTPUT: 1080 x 1920 px.

2. The product gallery: white or colour

Your store has no white-background rule. What matters is consistency: every product in the collection grid on the same background (white, or one soft colour) and at the same size, so the grid lines up. Use 1:1 or 4:5 throughout. A common pattern: the clean packshot in the grid flips to a lifestyle photo on hover.

Reuse your Amazon set. The size, feature, comparison and trust images from the 7-image Amazon playbook work on your product page too, below the gallery. Make them once and choose white for Amazon-style clean, or a colour from the product for a branded store.

3. Macro details and angles: the "touch" shots

Close-ups of the texture, the closure, the logo or the stitching stand in for picking the product up. Add a three-quarter angle and the parts so the shape is clear.

Macro detail prompt
Premium macro product photograph for the PEAK store showing material quality and construction.
PRODUCT LOCK: use the attached bottle and close-up photos as exact references: matte olive powder-coated body, black lid, PEAK mountain logo and the real mechanism.
COMPOSITION: an editorial layout of three distinct details in panels:
1. Extreme close-up of the olive exterior showing the fine matte texture.
2. The black lid lifted above the threaded steel neck, showing the threads and joining surfaces.
3. A sharp close-up of the printed PEAK mountain logo, exact shape and placement.
LIGHT AS SEEN: directional light from the upper left raking across the surface so the texture reads; precise focus on each detail; soft falloff.
BACKGROUND: warm off-white with charcoal and muted olive.
Optional small labels in a clean geometric sans, horizontal, no strokes or shadows: "MATTE EXTERIOR", "PRECISION LID DESIGN", "PEAK BRAND DETAIL".
DO NOT invent patterns, engraving, metal parts or logo details. Do not exaggerate the texture.
OUTPUT: 1:1, 2048 x 2048 px.
(For the labelled version use ChatGPT Image; for no labels use Nano Banana.)
45° angle prompt
Premium e-commerce photograph of the attached PEAK bottle from a 45-degree three-quarter angle, showing its form and proportions.
PRODUCT LOCK: identical to the attached photo: matte olive body, rounded base and shoulders, black flip-top lid with grip and hinge, integrated carry loop, PEAK logo clearly visible.
COMPOSITION: one complete bottle standing upright, front and one side visible, about 75-80% of the frame height, balanced space around it.
BACKGROUND: plain warm off-white #F7F7F3, no props.
LIGHT AS SEEN: broad soft light from the left, a gentle highlight running down the curve of the body, a natural contact shadow, the lid's plastic texture visible but not glossy.
DO NOT ADD: text, badges, a second bottle, a floating lid, water droplets.
OUTPUT: 1:1, 2048 x 2048 px.

4. Ad creatives for paid social

Once the store is ready, make ads that sell one idea each. Portrait 4:5 (1080 × 1350) suits the feed, and 9:16 suits stories and reels.

Questions

What size should Shopify product images be?

2048 × 2048 px square for the gallery (or 4:5 for a portrait grid), about 1920 × 1080 for a desktop hero and 1080 × 1920 for a mobile hero. WebP with JPEG fallback, sRGB.

Should my store images use a white or a colour background?

There's no rule. Keep the collection grid consistent, and use colour and real scenes for banners, lifestyle and feature images. A colour taken from the product makes the store feel like one brand.

Can I reuse my Amazon listing images on Shopify?

Yes. The feature, size, comparison and lifestyle images work on a product page too. Your store also needs wide hero banners with empty space for live text.
